Lack of New Generation Brings More Opportunity Dollars for Power Users
As your energy advisor, Rapid Power Management is always looking for innovative ways to bring your business increased savings and efficiency. One of those ways is through a nationwide program called Demand Response.
Demand Response is a service that allows participating companies to earn extra revenue by agreeing to curtail their electricity use if called upon by the grid operators. Customers receive advance notice when the grid is under stress, which enables customers to initiate the proper shut down of equipment.
Regardless of whether your facility ever gets called on, you still get paid. Also note that there are no costs associated with involvement in the program. An example payout for a 500 kW user in Texas is anywhere from $12,000 -$17,000 per year and a 1 mW load could earn double. We expect these payouts to rise due to the scarcity of reserves.
This program is becoming increasingly important, especially in Texas where we are experiencing low reserve margins and a steady population growth. As shown in the chart below, Texas’ 2012 reserve margins are even lower than last year when the state almost experienced rolling blackouts.
Please contact your RPM sales representative to find out how much money you may be able to earn through the Demand Response program in your area.
